The day of labor is one that is anticipated by everyone from the father to friends and family members. However, it is important to develop a plan for this day, whether itís planned or not. This ensures that a womanís labor and delivery preferences are known, that everyone knows what is expected of them, and that decisions donít have to be made in the moment. Why make important decisions about birth when one is in pain, excited, and has adrenaline running through their veins? Having a plan makes the day of labor that much easier to manage and much less stressful. The following are some things to consider when developing a birth or labor plan for the family.

Transportation and Communication

When the time comes, one should already have a bag packed for the hospital. This bag should not only include clothes and necessities but also important paperwork like insurance and emergency contact cards. This bag can then be easily brought along with the mother. A plan should be put into place regarding who will drive the woman to the hospital, who will be in charge of contacting the family, and who will do things like take care of any children or pets that may be in the house.

Plan for Birth

Before the day comes, one should know how they want to manage their labor. This means understanding if a Cesarean or C-Section is a possibility, whether or not the woman wants any pain medication, and who should be allowed in the room, if anyone. The names of the doctors and loved ones should be mesmerized, too. Having loved ones understand the plan will be beneficial if the woman is unable to communicate for any reason or if last minute decisions need to be made. The woman and her family should also know whether or not they want the labor to be induced if it takes a long time.

Documentation of the Birth

Some women truly want every moment of the birth to be documented with photographs and videos whereas others want only an image before and after the birth happens. This is important to discuss well before the labor happens. Some women will also want specific things in their hospital room: music, candles, images, etc. Knowing what should be brought along and how this birth will be documented ensures that all bases are covered. This is one of the most important moments in a womanís life. Itís important to carefully plan it.

When building this birth plan, it is important for a woman to talk to her partner, family, and friends. Oneís doctor may have great ideas, too. A lot of people come together for such a birth. This is why it is so important to consider every detail and possibility. The more specific the plan, the more prepared people will be.

Check out the Fit and Healthy Pregnancy to learn the best ways to stay in good shape during your pregnancy!

Back pain is common during a pregnancy because women are dealing with a lot of changes to their bodies. For example, not only is there the expected weight gain but there is also the shift in hormones. This makes it more difficult to do everything from sleep and bend over to even balance oneís self. Back pain can change a womanís posture and really result in some serious pain. However, it is possible to cope and prevent it. The following are some tips for how to manage back pain during a pregnancy.

Strengthen the Back and Abdomen Muscles

The increased weight in the stomach and back area can often strain the back and abdomen muscles. This is why it is important to do stretches and exercises to guard against this. Things like yoga and swimming will no doubt help with this. Talk to a doctor before trying such activities to ensure that they really will help strengthen such muscles.

Change Sleeping Position

Sleeping on oneís back during a pregnancy can result in some serious back pain. This is why many experts suggest switching to a side position for sleeping. Investing in a pillow to hug or place between the legs during sleep will also help a woman avoid back pain and sleep more soundly throughout the night.

Change Your Shoes

One of the biggest mistakes people make is trying to wear high heels or pre-pregnancy shoes. Instead, it is important to invest in shoes that offer the right type of support. Sneakers and special arch and support shoes will help a person avoid back and foot pain.

Get Rest

It is important for a woman to get eight solid hours of sleep a night, if not more. This will alleviate a lot of back pain, especially if the woman is sleeping on her side. The biggest mistake women make is trying to do too much while pregnant. The additional weight, hormones, and stress will affect the back and abdomen muscles. This is why it is important to sit down and stay off of oneís feet if at all possible.

Avoid Bending Over

Bending over is not a smart idea, especially if a woman is far on in her pregnancy. This is why it is smart to try and squat rather than bend over. Additionally, people need to think about where they place things like groceries and cleaning supplies. Pregnant women should ask loved ones to place such necessities in higher shelves so that they are easier to grasp.

Some back pain is normal. However, there are ways to avoid serious issues so that one is not constantly in pain. Talking to a doctor, being smart about activity, and strengthening the back and abdomen muscles will have some serious long term benefits. This ensures a pregnancy is as easy as possible.

A pregnancy is a delicate time for the mother and the child. Everything a woman eats or drinks affects the child growing inside of her. This is why it is important to consume a balanced and complete diet and to maintain a healthy level of exercise, too. Understanding which foods and drinks to avoid during a pregnancy ensures that no complications or issues occur. The following are some items to avoid when pregnant.

Raw Meat and Deli Meat

Raw meat includes everything from uncooked seafood to any poultry or beef that is undercooked. These items have an increased likelihood of containing bacteria, salmonella, or toxoplasmosis. Not only will such things hurt the mother and make her ill but they could harm the baby, too. Deli meats may be contaminated with listeria. This item can infect the baby and lead to blood poisoning, or worse. Similarly, smoked seafood options like lox and jerky may also contain listeria and should be avoided. Avoiding such meats will ensure that a miscarriage does not occur.

Raw Eggs

It is important for pregnant women to avoid eating raw eggs. This means being wary of homemade ice cream, Hollandaise sauces, and mayonnaise. Raw eggs can expose a pregnant woman to salmonella, which could end up harming the baby. Pasteurized eggs are safe to consume and cooked eggs are fine, too.

Soft Cheeses and Any Unpasteurized Milk

It is important to avoid imported soft cheeses, especially if they are made with unpasteurized milk. This is because listeria is known to exist in everything from brie and feta to gorgonzola and Mexican cheeses like quso blanco. Any cheeses that are made with treated or pasteurized milk are fine. Additionally, any pate or meat spreads may also contain listeria and should be avoided. A general rule to follow with such cheeses is that when in doubt donít eat the item. Thereís no reason to risk a miscarriage or blood poison because of carelessness.

Alcohol

There is no safe amount of alcohol that can be consumed during a pregnancy. This is why it should be avoided at all costs. It may be hard to give up that glass of wine with meals, but it will keep the child safe from harm. Too much alcohol can not only interfere with the babyís development and cause complications but it can also lead to Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

Caffeine

One needs to be careful about how much coffee or caffeine she consumes. A moderate amount like a cup a day is okay but too much can cause a miscarriage. It is important to avoid caffeine during the first trimester. After this, it is okay to have a cup or two. Caffeine can dehydrate a woman because it is a diuretic. Thus, avoiding this substance ensures the baby is protected from low birth weight and a premature birth.

Just because a woman is pregnant doesnít mean that she cannot exercise or stay fit. While it may not be wise to try and run a marathon while pregnant, nothing is stopping a person from maintaining a healthy amount of activity while pregnant. This will help a person relieve their backaches, keep their endorphins running, and it could help people sleep better at night, among other things. This is a chance to keep joints moving and to avoid things like constipation by keeping the bodyís muscles, joints, limbs, and intestines in working order. Keeping the body in shape will make it easier to give birth later on down the line. After all, a person needs to stay in control of their breathing, heart, and muscles to accomplish this goal. The following are some things to keep in mind when trying to exercise during a pregnancy.

Talk to a Doctor

It is important not to do too much during a pregnancy. Moderate exercise is important. This could mean taking a mile long walk three times a week or it could mean swimming in a pool. It is important to talk to a doctor so that he or she can help guide the fitness or exercise program. People who were highly active before becoming pregnant should drop some of the intensity from the pregnancy. A doctor can monitor a personís blood pressure, something that increases during pregnancy, and any tell-tale warning signs like vaginal bleeding and early contractions.

Include a Diverse Array of Exercises

It is important to be smart about the type of fitness routine one invests in. Walking, fitness DVDs that are catered to pregnant women, yoga, and swimming are all great ways to stay active without putting the baby in harmís way. Any high-risk sport like horseback riding, skiing, or scuba diving should be avoided. Additionally, something like bike riding should be approached with caution. All it takes is one fall and the baby could be injured. This is why it is important to approach exercise with caution and to not overwork one’s self.

When exercising, it is important to eat a balanced meal and drink enough water. Additionally, one should warm up and cool down afterwards and should only wear loose clothing. It is proven that people who exercise during pregnancy are more likely to lose their pregnancy weight after the birth. This is important for people who want to look and feel their best. It can be hard to shake baby weight, especially if someone hasnít been active during the nine or so months they have been with child. This is why it is important to maintain a healthy amount of exercise during a pregnancy. This keeps people happy and healthy.

Stretch marks happen when people gain and lose weight at a rapid rate. These marks are usually red or dark brown and appear on the stomach or abdomen, hips, breasts, thighs and buttocks area. These marks happen when there are changes to the elastic supportive tissue that lies under the skin. The marks can fade and even disappear with time. When women are pregnant, they gain weight and lose weight rather quickly. This is why stretch marks are common for such people. However, there are ways to prevent such marks from appearing. The following are some tips for how to prevent stretch marks.

Drink a Healthy Amount of Water and Eat a Lot of Greens

One of the best ways to avoid stretch marks is to eat a healthy diet full of greens, fruits, and vegetables. Doing this along with drinking eight or more glasses of water a day will hydrate the skin and ensure it is tight and maintains its elasticity. It is important to eat everything from spinach and cucumbers to carrots and healthy proteins like nuts.

Do Not Overeat

It is important that people do not overeat during a pregnancy. One of the biggest mistakes people make is thinking that they are eating for two and that they should eat two times as much food. This is not the case. Instead, people should eat when they are hungry and stop eating when they are full. Overeating could add additional weight to a woman. However, it is important not to diet or undereat because this could starve the baby and injure his or her development.

Keep At Risk Areas Moisturized

It is important that the legs, thighs, belly, breasts, and other at risk areas are properly moisturized. This will prevent stretch marks from occurring and will also eliminate any itchiness or dryness that occurs. Cocoa butter is a popular product for pregnant women as is almond oil, oilice oil, and shea butter. Moisturizing in the morning or at night will keep a womanís skin hydrated, smooth, and hopefully clear.

Topical Creams

After pregnancy, it is possible to rid yourself of stretch marks. One of the best ways to do this is to use Retin-A or glycolic acid products. It is important not to use such hardcore treatments until after birth. Additionally, it may be wise to wait until nursing is over, too, so that no complications arise.

A woman does not have to see her perfectly clear skin marred by stretch marks. By taking care of one’s self during a pregnancy, it is possible to avoid these unsightly red or pink marks. This means eating a healthy and balanced amount of food, drinking water, and consistently moisturizing the area. Following these tips will ensure that stretch marks do not happen.

Here, the belly is pronounces and the due date draws nearer and nearer. This is the time when a woman will feel ready to give birth and will fully feel the baby growing inside of her. This is a physically and mentally trying time for a woman. The babyís position can make it hard to feel comfortable, and a woman can feel stressed if the due date approaches and then passes without contractions. The following are some things to expect when in the third trimester.

Back Pain

Back pain is common for the third trimester. This is because the baby is constantly moving and because he or she is growing and gaining weight. Additionally, the motherís body will produce hormones that relax the joints of the bones in the pelvic area so that the body is able to give birth. This is tough on the hips and on the back. This is why it is important to try and sit down as much as possible, to invest in massages, and to wear shoes that have good arch support.

Heartburn

It is common for mothers to experience heartburn during the third trimester. This happens because the growing uterus pushes the stomach out of its usual position. Heartburn happens because of the displaced stomach acid. To remedy this, women should eat small meals and try to drink at least eight glasses of water a day, if not more. Fried foods and anything carbonated should be avoided to get rid of the pregnancy-induced heartburn issue.

Hemorrhoids and Varicose Veins

During pregnancy, blood circulation increases. Thus, some of the blood vessels may experience strain. Thus, reddish spots or lines may appear on the skin. The strain that happens in the rectum is called a hemorrhoid. If these veins or issues are painful, one should elevate the legs as much as possible and invest in support stockings. Avoiding constipation by ingesting fiber and fluids will lessen the likelihood and severity of hemorrhoids.

Urination

The baby is always growing and moving around during pregnancy. This can result in pressure on the motherís bladder, which in turn can make the woman feel as if she needs to urinate more. This frequent urination may happen more at night and can cause some leakage when the mother laughs, coughs, or sneezes. Panty liners are a great way to deal with this. If there is any pain or burning along with urination, then the woman may have a urinary tract infection. This should be treated right away or kidney damage could happen as well as a preterm labor.

The third trimester is the home stretch for a pregnancy. This is when the woman wants everything to be over. Past symptoms become more pronounced as the baby grows and develops into a form that can exist outside of his or her mother. This is both an exciting and nerve-wracking time for any mother-to-be.

The second trimester is a time where women are starting to get used to being pregnant. Often, one feels better because they understand how to relieve such things as back pain and the excitement and fear that comes with the first trimester. Usually the nausea tapers off and the baby is noticeable without being overbearing. However, there are other things to expect during the second stage of pregnancy. The following are some things to watch out for during the second trimester.

Growing Belly and Breasts

The second trimester is when a womanís body really begins to grow and change. You cannot really hide a pregnancy at this stage. The estrogen and progesterone in the body will make the breasts larger because milk production is beginning. Additionally, there may still be some tenderness, which is why a supportive bra is needed. The uterus becomes much larger and heavier during the second trimester so that there is room for the baby. A woman can expect to gain between three and four pounds a month from this point until the end of the pregnancy.

Contractions

The uterus is trying to prepare itself for birth. Thus, there may be some contractions to help build the uterusís strength. These warm up pains are weak, irregular, and are called Braxton Hicks contractions. If these pains become too regular or intense, a doctor should be called because it could be a sign of a miscarriage or a preterm labor.

Skin Changes

Blood is moving at a quicker pace during a pregnancy. Thus, some of the skin may appear darker, especially in the face, navel, or nipple areas. This darkness could also increase sensitivity, which is why sunscreen may be needed. Stretch marks may also appear on the stomach, breasts, thighs, and other areas. This is because the woman is rapidly gaining weight. Thankfully, moisturizing the area with cocoa butter or olive oil will help with these marks as well as with any itchy or dryness.

Vaginal Discharge

It is common to experience some discharge throughout the second trimester. This discharge will be thin and white. It is produced by the body to stop any harmful bacteria from growing. Many women use panty-liners to protect against this. However, if the discharge is green or if it is accompanies with itchiness or pain, the woman should contact a doctor. These are all signs of an infection.

Shortness of Breath

During pregnancy, a woman is carrying more weight and having to deal with intense hormone changes, among other things. The lungs have to process more air than before so that oxygen is given to the placenta and to the baby. Thus, it is common to experience shortness of breath.

The second trimester is an exciting time because a woman can truly see her body start to shift and change. This is when a woman may really feel the baby inside of her. The changes can be exciting for both the mother to be and those around her.

The first trimester of a pregnancy can be an intimidating time, especially for first-time mothers. After all, this is when the babyís first transformation occurs. The first three months of a pregnancy are very important. This is when hormones are triggered and when the babyís development truly begins. It is important to live a healthy lifestyle ñ no alcohol or smoking, a balanced diet full of nutrients, and a healthy amount of exercise ñ and to check in with a doctor so that the babyís development is carefully monitored. There are many changes to expect during this first trimester. Understanding how the body reacts to such changes ensures that a first-time mother is prepared for whatís to come. The following are some things to expect during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Tenderness

The increased amount of hormones in the body means that the breasts will be tender to touch. This could also mean that the breasts feel far fuller and heavier before. Avoiding sudden movements and wearing a sports bra will help with this increased sensitivity.

Increased Nausea

It is common for pregnant women to have increased nausea, often called morning sickness. This happens because of the hormones changes in the body. However, though it is often called morning sickness, it can occur throughout the day and can even be triggered by intense smells and by certain foods. This is why it is important to consume low fat foods that are easy on the digestive system and to drink ginger ale to settle the stomach.

Fatigue

Many pregnant women experience a lot of fatigue. This happens because the body is learning how to deal with pregnancy. Thus, the heart pumps faster than ever before and oneís pulse may quicken. This is why it is important to get rest and to consume a healthy amount of iron and protein. Including at least 30 minutes of activity or fitness in oneís day will also help to combat fatigue.

Emotional Effects

It is normal to run through a gauntlet of emotions during the first trimester. This is the chance to feel excited, nervous, exhausted, delighted, and anxious, among other things. This is because one will worry about the health of her baby, the move to motherhood, and what it will be like to raise a child and balance other responsibilities and relationships. The mood swings and weepiness are to be expected because of the big changes up ahead and because of the increased hormones in oneís system. It is important to always talk to loved ones and even to a doctor so that you can take good care of yourself through this pregnancy. Mental health is as important as physical health.

Understanding all of the effects of the first trimester of pregnancy ensures one will know what to expect. This makes it easier to cope with physical and mental changes. Knowing what to expect will prepare you and your partner for the next nine months.

A pregnancy is an exciting time in a womanís life. To bring new life into the world is a unique and amazing experience. However, one needs to take care of herself during this pregnancy. Otherwise, the baby could become injured and there could be some major complications with the pregnancy. A woman needs regular check-ins with her doctor, needs to eat a balanced and healthy diet fit for both her and the baby, and needs to take time to rest and reduce stress. This doesnít mean a woman canít work, visit loved ones, or has to stay in the house all of the time. Instead, it means understanding that the body is transforming and that one is carrying around not only extra weight but another life inside of her. Taking time to rest and lessen stress will keep the baby healthy and the mother-to-be happy. The following are some tips for reducing stress and getting rest during a pregnancy.

Get Enough Sleep Every Night

It is important to get at least eight hours of a sleep a night. This ensures that the baby is given enough time to properly develop. It is normal for a pregnant woman to feel fatigue easier or more than other women. Her body is working overtime to not only fulfill the functions of the woman but also the baby. Thus, it is important to not only get enough sleep every single night but to take naps when needed, too.

Treat Oneís Self

It is important for a pregnant woman to treat herself to lower stress. This may mean taking an hour a day to go to the spa and get a massage or to get her hair done or to go to the movies once or twice a week. Rest and relaxation and a cool and calm demeanor will keep the baby happy and healthy. Stress can interfere with the development of the baby because stress affects oneís heart rate, blood pressure, and habits. This is why it is important for a pregnant woman to routinely take time for herself: treating herself to cravings, visiting loved ones, and taking it easy.

Ask for Help

A pregnant woman should not be afraid to ask for help from time to time. Family members and friends will be happy to help a pregnant loved one with laundry, errands, and with heavy lifting. A woman doesnít have to do everything herself. The simplest errand will take more out of a pregnant woman than someone else. Minimizing stress and fatigue means reaching out to loved ones and delegating tasks.

Getting enough rest and reducing stress ensures that one’s baby is as happy and healthy as possible. This will also reap serious rewards for the people around the pregnant woman. After all, emotions are running high. It’s important to keep this in mind when planning and dealing with a pregnancy.

It is a myth that a woman loses her figure after a pregnancy. Instead, if a person takes the time to really stay healthy. He or she will no doubt be slim and healthy during this pregnancy. The key, of course, is to be smart about diet and exercise choices. Starving oneís self or doing too many high risk activities could end up harming the baby. This is why it is important to always consult a doctor when adapting a diet or exercise program during a pregnancy. Itís better to be safe rather than sorry. The following are some helpful tips for those who want to stay slim during their pregnancy.

Balanced Diet

Eating is an important part of staying healthy during a pregnancy. However, this is not the chance to only eat fast food or to think that you have to eat double of everything. It is imperative that a woman eat a balanced and healthy diet if she wants the baby to properly develop and wants to stay slim during a pregnancy. This will not only enhance a womanís mood but will also ensure the baby is given everything he or she needs to grow. Additionally, healthy proteins, greens, and fruits, among other items, will make the mother-to-be glow and will increase her energy when she is down. A balanced diet keeps all digestive systems working and enhances the metabolism, which is why it will help a woman keep her figure.

Fit in Exercise

It is important for women to stay active and healthy during a pregnancy. A person is welcome to work out. However, it is important to avoid dangerous or high risk activities like bike riding. Yoga, swimming, and light aerobics are great ways to keep the body healthy and happy and to ensure that a woman is able to lose any baby weight following a pregnancy. Exercise is great for the heart and is something that can definitely benefit the baby, too. Women should consult with their doctors when adapting their fitness routines to ensure that such activities are low risk.

Drink Lots of Water

Water is important during a pregnancy. This fluid flushes out a personís body and will make sure that the digestive system and the metabolism are in working order. Water is important because it helps a personís body soak up or take in all of the rich nutrients consumed. This gives the baby and the mother everything they need. Often, people overeat because they do not realize that they are dehydrated. Staying hydrated allows a woman to feel full for longer and will ensure that all foods consumed are properly digested, which in turn lessens the likelihood of weight gain, gas, and other issues.

A woman doesn’t have to gain 30 pounds or more during a pregnancy. Instead, if she is careful about what she eats and maintains a healthy level of activity, she can stay slim during and after giving birth. Health means a balanced and diverse diet full of rich foods. Keeping this in mind ensures both mother and baby are given what they need.
