Not to mention that grabbing your Ipod, putting on the runners, and heading out the door can really do a great deal to pick you up and alleviate stress &#8211; all while affording your cardiovascular system some quality exercise time.</p>
<p>There are things you will need to keep in mind for a proper walking technique. For instance, proper form is the most important consideration in order to get the most out of walking as an exercise. Doing this will make your workouts safer, more fun, and more beneficial.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s important to conceptualize your core structure, and its function to your body and health. The human body at its core could be likened to a spring. If you notice, the skeletal frame &#8211; from the side view &#8211; has a forward curve at the neck area, while having a reverse curve towards the middle of the back. The lower back curves forward again, as do the knees. The reason to analogize a spring is because, like a spring, the human body will resist and absorb shock in a very similar manner.<br />
<span id="more-72"></span><br />
<strong>In order to benefit the most from your core, it&#8217;s important to stay balanced, using the following techniques:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>head straight over the shoulders</li>
<li>shoulders straight over the hips</li>
<li>upper body straight and tall over the knees and ankles</li>
</ul>
<p>This posture will minimize the stress to your frame and body as you are performing walking exercises. When walking, it is essential to keep this concept in mind and be conscious of your posture, making sure the 3 axioms remain in place during the exercise.</p>
<p>As you walk, your center mass needs to be directly over the ball of your foot as the foot contacts the ground. Optimally you want to have the majority of body weight over the ball of the foot with a bent knee. There is little need to push forward as gravity can take care of that. To get the most out of brisk walking, try to get in about 45 minutes per day if at all possible. Otherwise aim for 45 minutes, 3 times per week.</p>
<p>There are additions to normal walking that will give more benefits to your exercise wants and needs. One such augmentation is the &#8220;Walking Lunge&#8221;. It works just as it sounds, in that you will be taking large strides forward in a walking motion. When you step forward you want to go as far down with your back leg as possible, getting your back knee within 6 inches of the ground/floor. As you complete each lunge, be careful to keep the back straight, placing your hands on your hips for extra balance &#8211; and to help keep your posture corrected. Watch that your front knee does not pass the toes when looking down. If it is, you have lunged a bit too much.</p>
<p>As a further modification to the walking lunge, if you have access to dumbbells you can simply carry these in both hands as you complete the lunges. This will cause more of a muscle work out to the normal cardio benefit of walking for exercise, but don&#8217;t let the muscle building fool you. It will increase the heart rate and burn fat nonetheless. I always like to finish off my walking workouts with a series of walking lunges with dumbbells.</p>
<p>Yet another variation on walking is to not move an inch. Just as you can jog on the spot, you can also walk on the spot. This is a very simple way to get your heart rate at an optimum fat burning level. A variation from walking on the spot is to clear enough room for 4 steps, and then simply walk briskly forward and backwards, four steps only. Keep this up for a few minutes and you will notice your cardiovascular engine firing up and burning away the fat.</p>
<p>All in all, walking is a serious exercise, not to be confused as a lazy attempt at working out. It has a great deal of benefits over jogging if you have weaker knee and ankle joints. Walking is preferred over jogging for anyone with arthritis or aging, and those with porous bones. In essence, walking significantly decreases the amount of impact your joints will suffer as opposed to jogging, so why not give it a try? It&#8217;s a sure way to get in some exercise as well as take some time to clear your head from daily stress.</p>

<p>Strength training, when completed properly, has many benefits and positives to your overall health and wellness. It will increase your bone mass, improve the function of joints and toughen ligaments. It has been said that strength resistance training can improve LDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol) as well as lend benefits to larger internal organs, such as the heart muscle.</p>
<p>Advanced strength training should be done only after one has enough experience in general weight training, as you must gain necessary rudimentary knowledge before moving on to more advanced strength training programs.</p>
<p>The reason it is important to have some weight lifting experience is simple enough; with strength specific workouts the #1 problem is a condition called over-training. Over-training is when you simply work your muscles too hard without allowing the proper rest time in between sessions to allow muscles to rebuild and grow.<br />

Even more experienced and professional athletes have been guilty of over-training at some point in their careers. From the sheer nature of workouts customized to build strength, overworking and under resting your muscles is very easy to overlook, it can happen almost unconsciously.</p>
<p><strong><em>Good Elemental Strength Training Exercise:</em></strong></p>
<ul>
<li><strong>The Squat</strong> &#8211; this is the best and most important of all strength training core exercises as it works the legs, glutes, back and core. It will target muscles closer to your spine which, in turn, causes smaller muscle groups to be stressed by association.</li>
<li><strong>The Press</strong> &#8211; specifically the bench press and the overhead press. Muscles stressed in this exercise(s) are the chest (pectoral muscles), arms, upper back, shoulder, and again, the core.</li>
<li><strong>Clean Lifts</strong> &#8211; This exercise develops the glutes, hamstrings, calves and most back muscles. The clean lift is an explosive movement, which is an excellent exercise for building acceleration in the muscles.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><strong>Rowing</strong> &#8211; Weight based rowing exercises such as the bent over barbell and dumbbell row are excellent back exercises.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong><em>Cardio Training:</em></strong><br />
Cardio workouts are used to accelerate endurance in the internal organs and blood vessels, generally for strengthening these organs (such as the heart and lungs), as well as to tune your body to become a fat burning mechanism rather than a fat storage mechanism. When done correctly, cardio workouts will help your body to utilize and process fuel more efficiently which will result in a greater level of exercising.</p>
<p>The most elemental benefit from cardio training is that it enhances the heart and lungs ability to distribute oxygen to the various skeletal muscles. Arguably, cardio is the most important form of exercise, but with no doubt it is a very important part of any successful fitness regimen. The goal of a cardio workout is always to increase your heart rate to a predetermined target heart rate for at least 30 to 40 minutes.</p>
<p><strong><em>Good Elemental Cardio Training Exercise:</em></strong></p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Machine or Kayak Rowing</strong> &#8211; rowing has the added benefit of anaerobic/muscle building work outs for the arms and back. Rowing, while often overlooked, can have the most benefits of any aerobic activity, as it is shown to burn more calories and target the heart more than both stationery bicycles and treadmills.</li>
<li><strong>Step Aerobics</strong> &#8211; targets your legs and hips while providing an excellent calorie burn in the least amount of time. Has a similar calorie burning benefit to rowing.</li>
<li><strong>Walking</strong> &#8211; Go figure. Brisk walks can help one to achieve a target heart rate without stressing knee and ankle joints normally associated with jogging. Adding the occasional sprint or 30 second intervals of jogging to a brisk walk and you increase the benefits.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><strong>Aerobic Sport Activities </strong>- Sports like squash, racquetball, basketball, cycling, tennis, badminton, e.t.c&#8230; have obvious aerobic benefits with the added benefit of being more activity focused and generally more fun. This can help with people who find it hard to stay motivated on monotonous set/rep based activities.</li>
</ul>
<p>There are some people that suggest it is better to choose between the two forms of exercise, but in reality by adopting a schedule of both anaerobic and aerobic training you get the most long term benefits in both areas. Most people who train for strength also allow for some form of cardio, and vice versa. The point of both types of exercise is to strengthen muscles and increase the endurance and fitness level of the human body. Therefore it goes without saying that one form will always benefit the other.</p>

Either from a late night movie marathon, a book we couldn&#8217;t put down, or a party that had entirely too much alcohol and went on far too long. The end result of these experiences is the inevitable large black suitcases that attach themselves to our eyes. We all know that eye bags and dark circles are to looking good as etch &amp; sketch is to art, but there are both natural and cosmetic things we can do to lessen the severity of this common &#8220;eye-sore&#8221;.<br />
First off, let&#8217;s find out why dark circles and puffy eyes occur. The condition can be caused by many common factors, here are but a few:</p>
<ul>
<li><em>dehydration </em>- when dehydrated you begin storing water, which can be visible by puffy dark circles near the eyes.</li>
<li><em>Diet issues</em> &#8211; excessive alcohol or salty foods before sleeping can cause those nasty eye bags.</li>
<li><em>Allergies </em>- pollen and dust can cause puffy eyes and create dark circles.</li>
<li><em>High blood pressure</em> &#8211; this pushes fluids into the tissues around the eyes.</li>
<li><em>Diseases </em>- thyroid or kidney issues can have a lasting effect on dark circles and swollen areas around the eyes.</li>
<li><em>Heredity </em>- If your parents were known for having dark circles, you are likely to have the same issues.</li>
</ul>
<p>There are a few &#8220;sans cosmetics&#8221; ways to get rid of nasty eye bags and make you look fresh, even considering any or all of the above issues:<br />

<li><strong>Frozen Green Tea Bags</strong> &#8211; green tea has caffeine and other anti-inflammatory properties that help to rejuvenate your eyes. Boil the bags to release the anti-inflammatory properties of the green tea. Freeze them immediately after boiling for 45 minutes or so. Wrap the tea bags in some paper towel or light cotton to avoid freezer burns on the delicate eye skin. At this point it&#8217;s a simple matter of placing the tea bags on your eyes for 15 to 20 minutes. This should reduce puffy eyes and dark circles, and leave you looking refreshed.</li>

The powder is the &#8220;James Bond, Stealth, Secret Weapon&#8221; of make-up. This process will set the make up and prevent the creases and lines that concealers can accentuate.</li>

<p>The make-up will likely be a last resort for the gentlemen, and that&#8217;s OK, since it would be considered as only a last ditch effort in case of an emergency.
