We’ve all experienced it in one form or another. Either from a late night movie marathon, a book we couldn’t put down, or a party that had entirely too much alcohol and went on far too long. The end result of these experiences is the inevitable large black suitcases that attach themselves to our eyes. We all know that eye bags and dark circles are to looking good as etch & sketch is to art, but there are both natural and cosmetic things we can do to lessen the severity of this common “eye-sore”.
First off, let’s find out why dark circles and puffy eyes occur. The condition can be caused by many common factors, here are but a few:
- dehydration - when dehydrated you begin storing water, which can be visible by puffy dark circles near the eyes.
- Diet issues – excessive alcohol or salty foods before sleeping can cause those nasty eye bags.
- Allergies - pollen and dust can cause puffy eyes and create dark circles.
- High blood pressure – this pushes fluids into the tissues around the eyes.
- Diseases - thyroid or kidney issues can have a lasting effect on dark circles and swollen areas around the eyes.
- Heredity - If your parents were known for having dark circles, you are likely to have the same issues.
There are a few “sans cosmetics” ways to get rid of nasty eye bags and make you look fresh, even considering any or all of the above issues:
